Match Report: South Shields 2-0 Marine

He tucked away a penalty in the 11th minute - following a challenge in the box by James Butler - before adeptly crafting the team’s second of the afternoon in the 25th minute when he capitalised on a poor goal kick on Marine’s part. That win pushed the Mariners up to eighth in the Vanarama National League North and they stand just two points outside the play-off spots as we approach the Christmas run-in.Something worth noting, also, is that Shields have the third best home record in the division...

Match Report: South Shields 7-0 Rushall Olympic

Match Report: Brackley Town 1-0 South Shields

The Mariners wanted to bounce back after Tuesday’s narrow loss to Radcliffe, but they were forced to settle with nothing after George Carline’s 71st minute goal separated the two sides. New arrivals Joe Richards and Anton Dudik - loaned from Leeds United and Carlisle United respectively - were in from the off and they wanted to use their first outing to impress manager Elliott Dickman. To their credit, Shields started the game well - it took just eight minutes for the pair to create the team’s f...

Match Report: South Shields 0-1 Radcliffe

Josh Hancock converted the visitors’ 75th minute penalty to claim a 1-0 victory for the Boro, in what was their second consecutive win, being lifted off the bottom of the Vanarama National League North table in the process. Elliott Dickman’s side would be left to rue their missed opportunities as all focus turns towards this weekend’s long trip to face Brackley Town. Things weren’t made easier by the fact Tom Broadbent - who netted Shields’ winner on Saturday - had to come off part-way through t...

Match Report: South Shields 1-0 Leamington

Backed by a bumper crowd of in excess of 2,000 supporters, Tom Broadbent’s header separated the two sides, although some may argue it could and should have been more. Elliott Dickman handed Myles Boney a start in goal, after opting for the more youthful Kyle Seymour in recent outings, and he impressed although he wasn’t made to do much. His clean sheet was the first one since September 3rd, against Buxton in the Vanarama National League North, when Aidan Rutledge's first-half stoppage-time free-k...

Match Report: Southport 3-0 South Shields

South Shields were left frustrated as they went away empty-handed in a 3-0 defeat against Southport on Saturday.Elliott Dickman’s side were hoping to bounce back after last weekend’s loss against Needham Market but in spite of trying, they were unable to find the target out there. That isn’t to say Shields didn’t deserve to get something out of the game, as things might have presented themselves differently at full-time had some chances gone their way.The Mariners were bright in the opening spel...

South Shields suffered a 3-0 defeat, in one of their longest trips of the season, against Needham Market on Saturday.A nightmarish first-half saw three goals conceded and a red card handed to Tom Broadbent, and Shields couldn’t find their way back into this Vanarama National League North match.Manager Elliott Dickman mainly persisted with the team which came back to draw 3-3 against Chorley a fortnight ago, in dramatic fashion.Dillon Morse made a welcome return to the fold after spending some ti...

South Shields FC host London City Lionesses ahead of Sunderland AFC match

They are the latest in a succession of teams to have trained at the Mariners' home ground - Roberto Mancini's Saudi Arabian national side, along with the Costa Rican men's team, trained there in September 2023. Sunderland AFC edged out a tight battle to claim a 1-0 victory, through a goal by Natasha Fenton in the 58th minute. The Pride, as they are known, were founded in 2019 when the board of directors and senior management at Millwall Lionesses decided to break away and form an independent enti...

Match Report: Chester 1-0 South Shields

The forward won out in a scramble in the 18-yard box on the stroke of half-time, scoring the only goal of the afternoon. It was good to see Sam Hodgson out on the field once more, following his early recall from Morpeth Town, after spending only one month away from the club. Unfortunately, Matty Williams was stretchered off in the sixth minute for The Seals after suffering what looked to be a serious injury. Shields' first opportunity came when Mackenzie Heaney launched a teasing through ball ov...

Match Report: South Shields 0-2 Scunthorpe United

Callum Roberts gave The Iron a well-deserved lead in the 35th minute with a competent strike from inside the box, before Alfie Beestin wrapped things up for the visitors in the 83rd minute. Manager Elliott Dickman only made one change from Saturday’s 4-1 win against Oxford City - Will Jenkins wasn’t involved and Ashton Mee took his place in the team.It was clear to see that Scunthorpe’s quality showed and they were sharp from the off. Within 90 seconds, Will Evans had flung the ball so impressiv...

The Mariners travel to Alfreton off the back of a thrilling 2-3 comeback win against bottom of the league Bishop’s Stortford and they hope to take that confidence into the weekend’s tie.

Alfreton sit just one point outside of the play-off places, with two games in hand over Hereford and Curzon Ashton just above them.

A win for Shields on Saturday
